This The New York Times story about addiction in the lawyer community reminds me of the movement Joan Kroc coalesced in her efforts to battle Ray Kroc's alcoholism. Many refused to believe he had a problem. Same went for her efforts in Major League Baseball, where she was told there were no addicts and her efforts to ban beer in the clubhouse were ridiculed. The roots of the fast food fortune that Joan Kroc gave to NPR, the Salvation Army, and so many others...can be traced to store #93, which her first husband was hired to manage. I'll be talking about it next Tuesday in St. Louis Park, MN at a special event held by the historical society there.
